Person born under the sign of the rooster is proud, determined, loyal and straight forward. They like to show off and learn as much as they can so as not to appear ignorant. They lack diplomacy and tact and say what is on their mind regardless of the consequences. The rooster hates being contradicted, cannot see reason and believes their way is the only way. They have an out-going personality and can be very friendly and entertaining. They are hard working and cautious and are very good at picking up information and using it to their benefit. They are always at ease with themselves but don't always get along with others. They can be possessive but are extremely loyal and warm. Roosters expect partnerships to last forever. Although they are not necessarily faithful themselves they expect their partner to be. Roosters can be difficult to live with as they can be demanding and rarely give away anything about themselves. They can be quite insecure and more sensitive than they will ever show you. Roosters have lots of acquaintances but not many friends. When it comes to careers, they are confident and willing to learn and broaden their horizons, they show respect to their sub-ordinates and usually receive twice as much in return. Careers that they are more suited to are: Hairdressers, Surgeons, Public Relations, Directors, Musicians, Educators. Famous rooster people are: Richard Wagner, Catherine the Great, Katherine Hepburn, Rudyard Kipling, Groucho Marx, Enrico Caruso and D H Lawrence.

More important, you will finally be at peace with yourself. Whatever happens, be it good, bad or indifferent, you will accept it all as part of the grand design.

I went to Jenn's weblog on Lloyd's recommendation to read about Moneyball, the book about Billy Beane and the A's. I'd read the piece about Billy Beane in March 30, 2003 NY Times Magazine, read the NYT book review, and heard an excellent radio interview by Terry Gross with the author Michael Lewis. And Jenn writes a good little summary of Billy Beane and his approach to assessing players.
But first, I read what Jenn wrote about commencement, and I choked on this: "the old white guy's speech was not particularly interesting..." Let's see, Jenn doesn't write about the color of anyone else, but my read on this, as a person of European heritage who is staring at middle age straight on, is that apparently it's OK to bash white people. That's how I take it.
I get it. Jenn's young, she's not "white." She's just referring to a person. Still, it rubs me the wrong way.
She also writes, "if you haven't taken a look at the front page of today's chron, i strongly suggest that you do so." OK, how about a link? Gimme a link to click on. Hey, a little help here.
Yikes. Still, a nice summary of Billy Beane's approach.

For Raymond and Jim:
I ain't doing that no more, Jon Carroll
Well, I have an announcement to make: I'm not playing. I will offer to pay for parking/bridge toll/lunch/movie tickets/beverages once. If the offer is turned down or countered with another offer, I will say: Fine.
