DLM Index feature: "College Admissions Project". This month's featured resource was
prepared by UCB undergraduate Education 191H students in collaboration with the Interactive University. To help introduce and prepare high school students for the college admissions process, the CAP website attempts to inform students of the value of higher education as it relates to career choices. The goal of CAP is to provide students with information that will help them plan and envision their future in college.

Griot: A member of a class of travelling poets, musicians, and entertainers in North and West Africa, whose duties include the recitation of tribal and family histories; an oral folk-historian or village story-teller, a praise-singer (from the OED).
In the heat of early June, seven students from Oakland's University Preparatory Charter School Academy gathered around seven iMacs, an Apple G4 and a scanner at the Eastmont Mall. Each had a story to tell, if they could find the words, pictures and sounds. With excitement to spare, they recounted personal histories and examined relationships with family and community. Honing these reflections into short digital movies, the seven forged themselves into griots, and in the process pioneered a new program: Eastmont Digital Griots Enroute - the EDGE.

third phase of work is set to commence in Fall 2002. The goal is to open
UC Berkeley resources to K-12 teachers, students, and all learners, by
making them available on the Internet. A new
website explains and demonstrates some of the plans and ideas.
IU activities are coordinated by UC Berkeley's Information Systems and Technology.
