Microsoft, building collections, bell hooks, Laura, Chris on blogging
Microsoft Office and web services
Microsoft takes Web services to the Office: " The new toolkit (free for download) allows developers to build and search out multiple Web services from across the Internet and integrate them from within the toolkit's development environment using UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration). Developers can also cobble together an application from those Web services within Office. Users can then construct Word-based or Excel-based templates that import and integrate external data and Web services."
I had been waiting for this to happen. This toolkit might make it easier to use Office to be the front end to Manila and to any provider of other web services.
Now what would be really great is a XML-based interface to all the Office suite so that all my data trapped in my Word docs and Excel spreadsheets and powerpoint presentations can be easily extracted in a non Microsoft-centric-COM-based way.

Building a digital collection
A Framework of Guidance for Building Good Digital Collections. A very forward-looking set of guidelines from the IMLS.
So why bell hooks and Chandra Mohanty
I told Isaac at lunch that I was intrigued by his quoting of bell hooks and Chandra Mohanty on Saturday -- and that I would ask why on my blog. So Isaac, fill us in....
Weblogging, Part II
Chris has just posted the second installment of his series on weblogging. Read Part I too if you had missed out.
Laura's Church
I had been wondering what church Laura attends. Now I know.
Considering upgrading to XP?
Six Things a SysAdmin Should Know About XP "Whether you work on a Windows, Linux, BSD or other kind of box, it's likely that if you're a system administrator, you'll wind up tending some XP machines in your network. Here's a list of the most important elements of Windows XP to keep in mind when making the migration from earlier versions of Windows. If you are on the fence with XP, the list below will give you an idea what you are in for, should you make the leap (or get pushed)."
