Another interview with Lessig

Good article on paper prototyping

Paper prototyping (IBM developerWorks) by Carolyn Snyder. "Wouldn't it be great to find out what users (and marketing) want before you start coding? Paper prototyping lets you do just that. While it may seem counterintuitive to test an interface without using a computer, paper prototyping lets you get maximum feedback for minimum effort. After a few usability tests with a paper prototype, you'll have confidence that you're implementing the right thing."

Thanks, Laura, for the encouragement

Laura wrote: "Hey, Raymond, I'm really glad you don't separate these things out. One of the things I like about your blog is that it gives me a smart, succinct exposure to stuff in which I might not otherwise think to take an interest."

Thanks -- and I'm glad to hear that blending my "eclectic" interests is actually helpful! (Now, I wish I had more time today to write about stuff other than technical Radio tidbits -- but that's what I've been wrapped up in.)

How to edit your boilerplate in Radio

A Radio boilerplate is very useful -- if you can figure out how to edit one after making them for the first time. Note to self (and others): Radio Boilerplates are located at user.bookmarks.boilerplate

How to get Radio and Manila to play along?

I have been playing with Radio 8 to keep my Radio blog. Radio is good for gathering syndicated materials from news sources and other blogs. But where do I want to put the info I gather in Radio? Right now, it's going to a separate blog -- but ideally, I'd like to integrate this flow into my regular blog. There is a tool to mirror Radio items in a Manila site -- but the tool works only for news-item oriented Manila sites, which mine isn't. Is there a way to convert my site to a news site without losing all my old postings? Do I want to convert my site in the first place.

What I might end up doing is writing a script/tool to read the XML from my radio blog and add it to my site. I can look at how the Manila-mirroring tool works and adapt it.

Fair use and the internet

Technology is Changing What's "Fair Use" in Teaching—Again. (EPPA) The authors of this paper are from the Berkeley campus: Linda Howe-Steiger and Brian C. Donohue. Here's a quote:

In short, it is easy to conclude that there is no Fair Use on the Internet because the Internet per se has become a commercial, for-profit business. To those who would say that information on the Internet is in most cases free and not commercially motivated, we reply that the goal of Internet companies and those who support their development is ultimately to make money—if they don't, they'll go out of business.
