Coming back to blogging
Back on the Blogging Bandwagon
I've had a hard time blogging the last few days. It's not that I haven't had anything to write about. Rather, I wasn't feeling that it was the worth the extra effort to make things that are clear in my own mind (or so I think) also clear to others.
But I'm back...perhaps with just the modest goal of starting off again with easy posts (such as links to materials I reading, but without any commentary.)
Video mail on Windows Yahoo mail
I composed some test video email from Yahoo this morning. (I just noticed this new feature, which works only for some Windows setup right now.)
The SpotLife recorder (that is used by the Yahoo service) seems to work ok -- but if the video settings are not set for the right input, the recorder plugin crashes my entire computer with a "Record component is not initialized" error. Also the video and audio seem out of sync on my computer.
A bigger question is when am I going to use video mail? I certainly haven't mastered the art of connecting to the person on the other side of the webcam via this new medium. Since I'm not the best example of the possibilities of Yahoo video email, I won't offer my own sample: go take a look at Yahoo's promo video clip to judge for yourself. (I noticed that video and audio are not synced up right either.)
Cleaning up Microsoft Office HTML and the latest on HTML Tidy
Over the weekend, I came across some possibly useful help on the question of how to clean up Microsoft Office-generated HTML: the Office 2000 HTML Filter 2.0 (from Microsoft) and a discussion on Philip Greenspun's site about this topic.
I've tried HTML Tidy before with little success (I probably wasn't using properly). Good news: HTML Tidy has gone open source -- and is being updated!
