2002/03/18: Hmm....
Running VMWare on my notebook
I have been wanting to get Linux running on my notebook computer for a long time. Every time I would start, I would run into a problem that would not let hang me up. At first, getting X windows up and running was a pain. Then networking took a lot of work. Not that any of the problems were insurmountable; I just never had the energy to solve the problems when more pressing matters were at hand.
This weekend, I finally got Redhat 7.2 up and running on my thinkpad a22p -- with the help of advice from Peter Schwenke's account of how he got RH 7.1 to run on his thinkpad. I noticed that Redhat has improved in its ease of use -- and that the advances people have made in porting Linux to various platforms are showing up in the standard distributions.
I got even more excited when I got VMWare Workstation 3.0 running on my W2K machine -- with Redhat as a guest operating system. That means that I can have access to programs on both operating systems at the same time. Although I have come to appreciate W2K as a development environment, I've always enjoyed programming in a unix platform more. Now I can have both. (Besides, as long as I want to run Ecco and work with others who use Windows, I'll be running a Windows machine.)
Extending the Radio Aggregator
Jon Udell points to the discussion on the new driver architecture in Radio. It seems that with a bit of programming, I'll be able to import MOA2 objects into Radio -- without first converting them to RSS 0.92.
