How Media Reflect or Create National Differences #

Canadian press coverage of the death and wounding of Canadian soldiers at the hands of an American pilot has been strikingly different from that in the U. S.    This morning, I noticed that what was (web) front page news at the CBC and the Toronto Globe and Mail could not be found on anywhere on the homepage of the New York Times -- not even in the highlights of the International section (on the front page).  It's not until one goes to the International Section and scroll to the near the bottom that you find the story.

What to make of this as a Canadian living in the U.S.?  At first, I was angry.  You're think that you're friends--the closest of friends, eh-- until something bad happens; that's when you know for sure.  I was then sad -- because there are so many nasty things happening, things that Canadians are also involved in doing, that are hardly mentioned.  And I don't pay much attention to them.  They barely register on my mind, whereas these tragedies are the stuff of headline news and everyday reality elsewhere.

BYTE: Jon Udell summarizes his experiences with Zope #
Because I still think about eventually using Zope seriously, I am pleased to read about Jon Udell's experiences with Zope.   I take his article as encouragement to explore further.    Also, as I get more into Java, I will want to look into Java analogues to Zope.  Are there any?  A preliminary search points to Enhydra  (though Enhydra doesn't look as though it's in exactly the same niche as Zope.)
