Always willing to talk Bach #

In writing about Glenn Gould, Lloyd wrote:  "I'm sure my Canadian, Bach-loving friend Raymond also has a lot to say about this particular domain. So Raymond, how about some Bach-talk, eh? If you can lay aside your alphabet soup of technologies for a little bit, that is. ::chuckle::"

I'm always glad to oblige a request to talk Bach.  Glenn Gould was a big influence on my own musical imagination during my teen years.  I'd often listen to his Goldberg Variations (on LP) while washing the dishes.  (Is that sacrilege?)  Gould was a novelty and a scandal to me as a Canadian, tired of being thought as just nice people.  Here was one really eccentric Canuck (weird?) who revolutionized how Bach was being performed -- amazing and incredible and a whole lot of fun, eh?

Funny that you should mention Gould. I rented Thirty-two Short Films about Glenn Gould.  I still have the DVD out from Reel  and will be watching it again before returning it.

The amazon search demo redux #

The previous demo of a amazon search tool that would display results in a library browser works in IE 5.5+ and NS 6.0 on a PC.  I then learned that it depended on having Javascript 1.5 -- and so would not work on a lot of browsers.

I rewrote the demo in an attempt to use lower-level javascript -- hopefully this will now work in many more browsers.

Back from Colorado and now into blogging #
I'm back from the OKI LMS II Summit held in Snowmass, CO last week. Lots to write about. I noticed last week that the luminary Ray Ozzie (creator of Lotus Notes and Groove) has started a weblog, thus making his insight and knowledge available to the world in a very personal way. I find it really inspiring that someone of Ozzie's stature would be blogging, thus inspiring me to do my little part in sharing what I know with the world. And what he has to say has already been so valuable. (Is this process a bit like the "I want to be like Mike" phenomenon among kids playing basketball all over the world?)  (Of course, there are some that have said that we shouldn't want to be like Mike)
