| I'm back from Educause 2002 # |
|
I got back from Atlanta late last Friday night. I was very stressed on Monday, making last minute preparations for traveling and speaking -- and therefore doubting the value of spending all this money and time and effort to get myself to Atlanta. By the time I got to Atlanta and especially after giving our talk, I started to feel very happy. Of course, I'm relieved to be back in the Bay Area; I'm such a homebody.
I'll have more to write and say today and over the next several days about what happened at Educause, what I learned, and next steps. In the meantime, I commend to you Chris Ashley's coverage of Educause from Wednesday and Thursday for a personal angle -- and net coverage available from the Educause site, including talks from John Gage and Clifford Lynch. Too bad, the closing talk by Andrew Young is not (yet?) online....(more later).

| The New Yorker and the Web # |
|
I will have to start tuning into the New Yorker website more often. Although I am an avid reader of the magazine, I've not been checking into the website very often. There wasn't much reason to go to an advertising site. Recently, however, I've noticed more and more content placed on the site. A key draw is the peristence of some important articles, specifically, the post 9/11, war on terrorism coverage.
Right now, there is an interview of Larissa MacFarquhar about her own interview of Harold Bloom. I didn't manage to get through the profile before being interrupted and so will have to make my way back to the magazine. (I link to the picture of MacFarquhar because it's really quite nice to see what the writers look like. I often form a picture of what a writer -- or radio broadcaster -- looks like from her writing or her voice. Invariably, my image doesn't match up to the reality....
