I'm be at a small Walk-A-Thon to support TeleCare tomorrow #

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 26, I will be participating in the Alta Bates Summit 2002 "STRIDES TO PROVIDE!" , a 5k Walk-A-Thon & Health Festival   I'll be there to support TeleCare, a  non-profit program (run out of Alta Bates Hospital) which provides, by phone -- free of charge-- a daily source of comfort, support and information from a friendly, caring voice to homebound, isolated and convalescent people in our community.

I've been hitting up friends to sponsor me -- and they've been exceedingly generous.  I'm planning to match the money that others give me (up to a $1000)  I've been a volunteer for about three years now -- and I think it's one of the most worthwhile efforts I've ever been involved with.  The program, which has provided phone calls for 200-300 people on a daily basis for over thirty years, is run on a shoestring.   (The cost per client is approximately thirty-fvie cents a day, derived primarily from the huge number of volunteer hours donated per year.)

TeleCare is also looking for people who can benefit from being served by the program.  We need to do a better job of getting the word out....
